Honey'd Heat Brussels Sprouts Sensation

Honey'd Heat Brussels Sprouts Sensation

This recipe transforms humble Brussels sprouts into a flavorful side dish with a delightful char and sweetness. We'll pan-grill them to achieve a crispy exterior and tender interior, then add savory bits of ham or bacon for a salty, smoky contrast. A touch of Stella's Honey'd Heat adds sweetness to contrast with the bitterness of the Brussels sprouts. The hint of chili heat makes this a side dish that you want to be your main dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 4-6 ounces ham or bacon, diced (adjust to your preference)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoons Stella Foods Honey'd Heat

Yield:
4 servings

Prep Time:
15 minutes

Cooking Time:
15-20 minutes

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts
Wash the Brussels sprouts thoroughly. Trim the tough ends and remove any loose outer leaves. Cut each Brussels sprout in half lengthwise.

2. Cook the Ham or Bacon
In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the diced ham or bacon over medium heat until crispy and the fat has rendered. Remove the cooked ham or bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.

3. Pan-Grill the Brussels Sprouts
Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the Brussels sprouts to the pan, cut-side down, in a single layer. Cook undisturbed for 3-5 minutes, or until the cut sides are nicely browned and caramelized.

Season with Stella Foods Honey'd Heat and some salt and pepper if desired.

Flip the Brussels sprouts and cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until tender-crisp and browned on the other side.

4. Combine and Serve
Return the cooked ham or bacon to the pan with the Brussels sprouts. Toss everything together to combine. Transfer the pan-grilled Brussels sprouts with ham or bacon to a serving dish. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips and Variations:

  • For extra crispy Brussels sprouts: Don't overcrowd the pan. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • Add aromatics: Consider adding minced garlic or shallots to the pan during the last few minutes of cooking for extra flavor.
  • Use different vinegars: If you don't have balsamic glaze, you can use a drizzle of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice for a different flavor profile.
  • Vegetarian option: Omit the ham or bacon and add a handful of toasted nuts (like walnuts or pecans) for a crunchy texture.
